Golden State Medicare to use analytics to aid medication adherence

Golden State Medicare Health Plan will deploy advanced analytics to improve medication adherence and patient outcomes.

The Newport Beach, Calif.-based HMO has announced it will use applications developed by AdhereHealth, a healthcare technology solutions company.

The technology vendor’s solutions will use advanced analytics to identify members of the HMO who need support in their medication adherence. Often, these patients are the ones most challenged by social determinants that include poor health literacy and access to care.

AdhereHealth uses the analyzed data to mobilize a nationwide network of licensed clinicians to engage directly with the consumer and their doctors to improve adherence.

"Our data-driven approach creates a positive experience for the consumer and promotes medication adherence that meaningfully improves healthcare outcomes," said Jason Rose, CEO of AdhereHealth. "This also aligns perfectly with Golden State's goal to use advanced technology to build a foundation for driving future growth and innovation across California."

Sanjay Patil, CEO of Golden State Medicare Health Plan, says the health plans takes a “physician-led and member-centric approach” that draws on innovative technologies. "AdhereHealth's technology helps us directly engage with our members to ensure medication adherence and improved health, an effort we can measure through higher Star Ratings," he says.

The Adhere platform touches nearly 10 million consumers through advanced technologies, at-risk engagement services and home-delivered pharmacy, the company said. Its integrated set of solutions addresses an estimated $300 billion of unnecessary annual medical costs attributed to medication adherence issues.

Golden State Medicare Health Plan is a physician-led, technology-enabled Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan in California that serves its members with what it calls the “C.A.R.E. method,” which stands for compassion, accountability, respect and excellence. The plan was recently acquired by Connected Care Health Services, and it focuses on providing members with “a frictionless healthcare experience,” accomplished by removing barriers to healthcare and prioritizing access to high-cost, life-saving, life-sustaining medications that can transform health outcomes, the company said.
