Definitive Healthcare has purchased the vendor data services business line of HIMSS Analytics, which includes its product lines and customized research capabilities.

Definitive Healthcare is a vendor of data and intelligence on hospitals, physicians and other types of healthcare providers. The HIMSS Analytics purchase includes research products called Logic, Predict and Analyze, as well as customized research products.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The companies started talking some time ago about ways to give providers the data they need via an online platform, says Jason Krantz, Founder and CEO at Definitive Healthcare. The goal of the combination is to enable providers to run their own data analytics to gain insight on initiatives such as mergers and acquisitions, helping them identify physicians they want to recruit, physician referral patterns, patient leakage, network growth strategies and new partnerships,

Providers without the technical skills to conduct their own analytics can get the data and professional services they need from Definitive Healthcare to help them better understand the data and build out their network.

“HIMSS Analytics has developed an extraordinary powerful dataset, including technology install data and purchasing contracts that when combined with Definitive Healthcare proprietary healthcare provider data will create a best-in-class solution for our combined client base,” Krantz adds. “HIMSS has a great brand, so this teaming was a natural fit.”

Both companies have more than 20 years of experience in data collection, resulting in deep health data expertise, and with the acquisition, Definitive Healthcare can enhance its market intelligence platform, enabling its customers to better engage with providers and advance efficiencies and best practices.

In total, Definitive Healthcare provides data to 8,800 hospitals and integrated delivery systems, 150,000 physician groups, 1 million physicians, 10,000 ambulatory surgery centers, 14,000 imaging centers, 86,000 long-term care facilities, 39,000 clinics, 1,400 accountable care organizations and health information exchanges, and 900 hospitals in Canada.

“We identified Definitive Healthcare as the ideal strategic buyer early in the process,” says Blain Newton, executive vice president at HIMSS Analytics.

Integration of the data sets into a single source is underway, which will enable improved coverage of IT purchasing intelligence with access to years of proposals and executed contracts to bring transparency and efficiency into the development of commercial strategies, according to the companies.
