A company with a deep background of providing communications and analytics services to a variety of businesses is expanding its offerings within healthcare to an emerging care delivery venue—telehealth.

Xerox said it is expanding offerings to help providers support care delivered in virtual settings, and integrate that care with information in electronic health records.

The company said it will offer Virtual Health Solutions, a customizable combination of consulting, services and technology based on providers’ specific telehealth goals.

This form of healthcare delivery has good growth prospects because consumers are open to getting virtual care. A recent survey conducted for Xerox by Harris Poll in May found that 61 percent of U.S. adults are willing to receive non-urgent healthcare advice, exams or counseling in a virtual setting; however, only 16 percent have used virtual health, the survey found.

According to the research, 77 percent of respondents said they would be excited about the possibility of receiving healthcare virtually. Convenience was cited as the top benefit (59 percent), followed by potential cost savings (40 percent) and the ability to see or communicate with healthcare professionals for minor ailments and the option to easily refill prescriptions, both mentioned by 35 percent of respondents.

Xerox said its new line of services include interface design and development, to help overcome interoperability challenges to enable providers to verify a patient’s identity and medical history; virtual health consulting services; and virtual clinic services, which include front and back office services that enable providers to connect with patients in a virtual setting.

“Healthcare organizations need to prepare for an ‘anytime, anywhere’ paradigm – one in which care is typically delivered outside the four walls of a hospital,” said Connie Harvey, chief operating officer, Xerox Healthcare Business Group. “We understand that healthcare organizations are in very different places when it comes to their telehealth strategy. Our approach to virtual health allows us to provide customized services based on a client’s specific needs.”
