The federal government has added data on quality measures for inpatient psychiatric facilities to its Hospital Compare website for consumers.

The site now includes data from 1,753 facilities covering four measures: Hours of physical restraint use, hours of seclusion use, post-discharge continuing care plan created, and post-discharge continuing care plan transmitted to the next level of care provider upon discharge.

Quality data collected from Oct. 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013 is available by facility, by data and on a national level. Data can be sorted and filtered. Data also can be downloaded in Access or CSV formats.

Due to technical difficulties, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services did not make public data on two additional measures covering medication use and will add that data in April 2015. The measures are patients discharged on multiple antipsychotic medications, and patients discharged on multiple antipsychotic medications with appropriate justification.

Public reporting of psychiatric care quality measures are being done through the Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting program authorized under the Affordable Care Act. More information and the data sets are available here.
