Two months ago, Quality Systems Inc., parent company of NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, acquired health information exchange vendor Mirth Corp. for $59 million. Now NextGen has released a first-generation interoperability platform.

Called NextGen Share, the platform initially will enable the exchange of secure email, clinical care summaries and referrals with other users of NextGen’s electronic health records system from within the EHR.

Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Mirth offers a core HIE platform, along with a suite of ancillary software. Products include data aggregation and organizing to populate clinical data repositories; middleware to support enterprise master patient index, master provider index, facility index, member lists and data de-duplication; and secure messaging and email, provider directory and care management. Mirth serves hospitals, accountable care organizations, insurers and HIEs.
