Laboratory vendor Sunquest Information Systems is the latest in a growing list of health information technology vendors with a product that has received federally-deemed certification for compliance with one or more criteria of the ONC 2014 Edition electronic health records meaningful use program, which includes recently revised Stage 1 criteria for 2014 and Stage 2.

The Sunquest Laboratory 7.0.1003 information system received certification as an EHR Module from the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology for meeting five certification criteria: End-user device encryption, transmission of reportable laboratory tests in the inpatient setting, automated numerator recording, quality management system, and incorporate laboratory tests and values/results. Additional costs a hospital would pay to implement the new version include initial license fees and on-going maintenance, according to the vendor.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Web site that lists certified EHRs presently shows 41 products meeting some or all of the 2014 Edition criteria.
