Microsoft Corp. and revenue cycle management services/ambulatory software vendor athenahealth have signed a joint marketing agreement and will introduce a combined product to aid accountable care organizations.

The companies will integrate athenahealth’s Web-based practice management and electronic health records software with Microsoft’s Amalga data integration, aggregation and analytics platform.

The combined system will support improved care coordination across inpatient and outpatient environments, according to the vendors. Steward Health Care System in Massachusetts and Cook Children’s Health Care System in Texas will be test sites of the new platform.
