Merge Enters the Lab Market

Medical imaging software vendor Merge Healthcare has acquired the laboratory information systems assets of Fletcher-Flora Health Care Systems Inc., Anaheim, Calif., for an undisclosed sum.

Milwaukee-based Merge did not acquire all of Fletcher-Flora, just certain assets, says Julie Pekarek, vice president of marketing at Merge. Those assets comprise Fletcher-Flora's five lab products, which is its complete product line aside from connectivity solutions. The home page of Fletcher-Flora's Web site states, "We are pleased to announce Fletcher-Flora is now a part of the Merge Healthcare family of health I.T. solutions."

Merge made the acquisition quietly, with the HIStalk blog first reporting it. Merge does not have information about the acquisition on its Web site, has issued no written statement and made no mention of the buy in a quarterly financial report issued in recent days. However, under the Products page of Merge's Web site now is a listing of Fletcher's five laboratory systems. "Having assets in the LIS space is a natural extension of the existing Merge solutions for overall EHR adoption," Pekarek says.
