The MedPlus subsidiary of Quest Diagnosis is offering its Web-based, integrated physician practice management/electronic health records system for less than $100 per physician per month for 10 to 23 months for practices that sign up during 2012.

The system, called Care360, retails for $300 to $450 per physician per month. But Quest Diagnostics, taking advantage of the Stark Act EHR subsidy program that expires at the end of 2013, is subsidizing 85 percent of the licensing, hosting, maintenance, support, training and implementation fees.

The program focuses on small to mid-size practices but is available for any sized non-hospital-owned physician practice or independent nurse practitioner or physician assistant practice. There are some restrictions, particularly that the practice must not have an existing EHR.

Best known as a health information management vendor, MedPlus entered the physician software field in late 2010 after getting Complete EHR certification of Care360 for meeting Stage 1 meaningful use criteria. To spur sales as the meaningful use program fueled purchasing decisions, the company offered an 85 percent subsidy program over 24 months during 2011 in the Texas, Florida and D.C./Maryland/Virginia markets. MedPlus had about 1,000 EHR installs when the regional 2011 program began, snagged another 2,000 practices during the four-month sign-up period, and has more than 4,000 today, says Rohit Nayak, vice president of physician technology solutions.

Now, the 85 percent subsidy program has expanded nationwide. “It’s simply a method of trying to get customers as quickly as possible,” Nayak says. “Meaningful use is out there, we know people are making decisions.”

The national program launched January 23. Practices that sign up through April are subsidized through 2013. Practices joining from May through August receive 15 months of subsidies; those joining from September through December get 10 months.

MedPlus hosts the software and says physicians are live on the system, on average, within 45 days of completing the contract. More information is available at care360.com/grant.
