Meditech to Buy Partner LSS
Hospital information systems vendor Meditech Inc. will acquire its long-time ambulatory software partner LSS Data Systems for an undisclosed price.
Hospital information systems vendor Meditech Inc. will acquire its long-time ambulatory software partner LSS Data Systems for an undisclosed price.
Westwood, Mass.-based Meditech and LSS have been partners for 28 years, as LSS' practice management and electronic health records applications are built to be compatible with Meditech's hospital systems. The companies expected the acquisition to close in February.
The transition of provider organizations to improve care coordination and disease management, and the corresponding need to integrate ambulatory/acute care software with home health, rehabilitation, long-term care and behavioral health applications drove the acquisition, says Paul Berthiaume, public relations manager at Meditech.
In particular, Meditech is preparing for establishment of accountable care organizations and coordinated treatment and disease management initiatives as authorized in the Affordable Care Act. "We need to be even more deeply involved in these areas with companies we previously have partnered with," Berthiaume says.
For instance, Meditech previously bought Patient Care Technologies, its home health vendor partner. Now, the 200 software professionals at Prairie Eden, Minn.-based LSS bring ambulatory expertise to Meditech, and LSS facilities in the Midwest will facilitate enhanced service to Meditech clients.
Meditech also wants tighter integration of its acquired technologies with its core hospital information systems. "We're trying to build the best possible systems," Berthiaume says. Asked if that means all hospital, ambulatory and home health systems will be on a single platform, Berthiaume says the company will have more to say about its plans in the near future. But he adds that the company is moving toward one integrated information system that encompasses all areas of care delivery.
