Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has outsourced several information technology operations to IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y.
Terms of the five-year contract were not disclosed, but the Boston-based plan expects to save $16 million annually. Under the agreement, IBM will be responsible for help desk services, data center operations and applications support.
IBM also will host the plan's external Web site, bluecrossma.com. The outsource contract builds on a relationship started in January when Massachusetts BCBS selected the vendor to create a new member portal.
