LabCorp has introduced a mobile app that aids patients in moving their health records to their iPhones, making it easy to access test results.

That’s just the start, as the app—currently in beta stage testing—also will give access to information from healthcare organizations that get services from LabCorp, covering patients’ allergies, medical conditions, immunizations, medications, procedures and vital signs, turning the iPhone into a patient’s own electronic medical record, company executives say.

Patient information will be viewable in the Apple Health app for LabCorp patients that have a LabCorp patient account, enabling integration with the Health Records app. Patients will be notified when their data is updated.

Patient data will be encrypted and further protected via the user’s iPhone passcode, as well as the vendor’s Touch ID biometric fingerprint authentication software or the Face ID facial recognition system.

“Our strategy to support the increasingly engaged consumer is a critical part of our mission to improve health and improve lives,” says David King, chair and CEO at LabCorp. The new tools, he adds, will help provide patients with a more holistic view of their health.

Test results also will be accessible via an online portal with tools that include scheduling and making payments.
