Market intelligence database operator IMS Health has acquired Med-Vantage, a software vendor serving health care payers, for an undisclosed sum.

Norwalk, Conn.-based IMS serves the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, provider, payer, research, finance and regulatory sectors of the health care industry. The acquisition will enhance its payer portfolio of products and services.

San Francisco-based Med-Vantage's suite of software enables payers to develop provider directories, clinical quality measures and care alerts, provider performance measurement programs, HEDIS reports, and summary statements to members of claims, benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and opportunities for savings and to fill gaps in care.

BP Informatics LLC, a consortium of about a half-dozen Blues plans, was majority owner of Med-Vantage. The vendor's products serve payers managing more than 30 million covered lives. More information is available at medvantage.com.
