Ideas to Bring Behavioral Health to HIE

A new report from the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization takes a look at the issues around sharing behavioral health data through health information exchanges.

CORHIO is the state-designated entity for HIE. It worked with community mental health centers and other behavioral health organizations to hold six community meetings across the state to gather information about concerns, opportunities and priorities.

A major finding of the meetings is that current models of all-in or all-out information sharing likely won’t serve the behavioral health community, which needs more choice about which information would be shared with whom. But nearly 90 percent of participants in the meetings agreed that behavioral health should be considered part of a person’s overall health, according to the report, available at corhio.org.
