Nuance Communications and 3M Health Information Systems have partnered to create a new coding/documentation system called Computer-Assisted Physician Documentation.

Nuance Communications and 3M Health Information Systems have partnered to create a new coding/documentation system called Computer-Assisted Physician Documentation.

The ICD-10 compliant product combines speech recognition and clinical language understanding technology from Nuance with a range of coding technology from 3M Health. Physicians using the new application can dictate notes with speech recognition, creating a document while incorporating relevant structured data, according to the vendors.

During dictation, the system will prompt physicians when more specific information is required to improve documentation and generate details for ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding. The companies expect the new application will be available in the fall of 2011.
