Health information management vendor IOD Incorporated has acquired ApeniMED, which also serves the HIM field, for an undisclosed sum.

The deal brings to IOD a suite of complementary software and services that ApeniMED offers. Minneapolis-based ApeniMED sells health information exchange software linking providers to each other and to federal agencies. The package includes eAudit to deliver and track medical record requests to Medicare Recovery Audit Contractors, with IOD being a customer since 2011. Other products include eDetermine to send medical records to the Social Security Administration, eClinicals to exchange patient data among providers and including record locator and electronic referral services, and ShareLink Exchange to support secure clinical messaging based on Direct Project protocols.

Green Bay, Wis.-based IOD offers software and outsourced services covering release of information requests, document conversion, coding/auditing/electronic health records data abstraction, denial management, ICD-10 training and transition services, and HIM consulting.

Combined, the companies will offer data exchange capabilities for the business transactions most central to release of information requests, according to IOD.
