HealthVault Gets Mobile Enhancements

Microsoft Corp. has added mobile capabilities to its personal health records product line and plans more enhancements in the next few months.

HealthVault users now can immediately see their health information on their mobile devices, and Microsoft also is trying to make more user-friendly the "reconciliation process" of having visit summaries, medication and allergy lists, and other information incorporated into a HealthVault PHR.

Users previously had to sign into HealthVault and confirm they wanted these items. That option still is available, but a redesigned reconciliation process also is being offered so new health information is automatically sent to a user's account.

A new authentication feature is designed to enable HealthVault users to sign into their account using their Facebook credentials. Data will move only from Facebook to HealthVault. Users have the option when logging in to HealthVault from Facebook to get a call on their mobile device for confirmation before access is granted.

More information, but some of it written for only the deepest, most tech-savvy HealthVault fans, is available on the Family Health Guy blog of Sean Nolan, chief software architect for Microsoft's Health Solutions Group.
