The State of Florida has awarded a four-year, $19 million contract to Harris Corp. to build a statewide health information exchange.

Florida earlier this year received $20.74 million in HITECH Act grant funding for development of a statewide HIE.

Melbourne, Fla.-based Harris is a veteran contractor for government agencies and commercial businesses. The company was the prime contractor in a federally paid project to create the CONNECT downloadable networking software to ease secure exchange of protected health information over the Internet.
