Georgia Makes its HIE Official

The Georgia Department of Community Health has named the Georgia Health Information Exchange as the statewide HIE, funded with more than $13 million in start-up federal funds under the HITECH Act.

The announcement was expected as public and private stakeholders have worked to develop a HIE that was not under state control--but the state had an advisory role on the board. The statewide entity will connect with regional HIEs in Georgia.
