JMI Equity has acquired interface vendor Capsule Technologie for an undisclosed sum.

Andover, Mass.-based Capsule offers an interface library for hundreds of medical devices, including patient monitors, enabling patient data to flow into electronic health records, picture archiving and communication systems, and other applications. Capsule nearly doubled revenue in 2011 and passed the 1,000 customer milestone, according to the company.

JMI Equity also has brought in industry veteran Gene Cattarina as CEO of Capsule. He succeeds Arnaud Houette, who continues to serve on the board. Cattarina has served in senior positions at Impulse Monitoring, Lynx Medical Systems, Landacorp, Medicode, and TDS Healthcare Systems.

The equity firm’s current portfolio of 42 companies across a wide range of industries includes health care vendors Courion (identity and access management), Navicure (revenue cycle management), PointClickCare (long-term care EHR) and StuderGroup (hospital performance management).
