Emergency department information systems vendor T-System Inc. has acquired outsourced billing firm Practice Management Associates for an undisclosed price.

The acquisition is a small one--Williamsburg, Va.-based PMA only has about 20 ED clients in the mid-Atlantic region--but represents T-Systems’ entrance into the billing, coding and collections arena. The Dallas-based company has about 1,400 EDs documenting care on its paper templates and 300 EDs using its emergency department information system. PMA supports departments running on paper or information systems.

Combining information systems and billing can enable T-System to offer comprehensive services, including a range of options to improve the revenue cycle, such as training to improve documentation, says COO Mikael Ohman. More information is available at pmamedicalbilling.com and tsystem.com.
