The State of California has launched the California Telehealth Network, a $30 million initiative funded in part by a $22.1 million grant from the Federal Communications Commission, with the remaining balance from a state fund, universities, and other public and private entities.

The goal of the network is to link 800 health care facilities across the state, with the first 50 sites activated within months. The University of California will manage the network.

Network services will include consultations, sharing of medical images and other diagnostic tests, disaster preparedness and continuing education, among other functions. More information is available at caltelehealth.org.
