Big Veterans Affairs RTLS Contract Goes to HP

The Enterprise Services unit of Hewlett-Packard will implement a suite of real-time location system applications throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs medical network under a five-year contract worth up to $543 million.


The Enterprise Services unit of Hewlett-Packard will implement a suite of real-time location system applications throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs medical network under a five-year contract worth up to $543 million.

The contract covers 152 hospitals as well as outpatient pharmacy facilities, with multiple subcontractors working with HP. Intelligent InSites will provide core RTLS software and OTASystems will handle RFID applications for asset tracking and sterile processing workflow.

CenTrak will contribute active RTLS for asset tracking, temperature monitoring and sterile processing workflow. Wavemark will supply a cath lab supply management product that includes passive RFID for automated smart cabinets. Censis will provide 2D barcode tracking of surgical instruments as part of the sterile processing workflow.

HP as the prime contractor will handle delivery of technologies, program management, operations planning, implementation management, related hardware and software, and site readiness.
