Ambulatory software and outsourced revenue cycle management services firm athenahealth will integrate its electronic health records system with the safety event reporting application of Quantros, a patient safety organization.

The integration, at no cost to users, will enable practices to report safety concerns and findings via the EHR to Quantros in a blame-free environment, according to the companies. Safety issues could include falls, misdiagnoses, or safety concerns within the EHR, among other events.

Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth will implement Quantros’ safety reporting software throughout its national customer base of 47,000 providers and make reporting a streamlined process within the EHR workflow. Clients also will have the ability to share best practices.

The partnership fulfills a pledge athenahealth made to clients to identify, report and resolve safety events via a patient safety organization.
