Looking to expand its consulting portfolio, the Advisory Board Company has acquired Clinovations, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm specializing in information technology implementations and optimization of IT systems.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Advisory Board, also in Washington, provides a range of research, performance management and strategic planning services to hospitals and delivery systems.

Clinovations brings important new clinically-focused services with its implementation and optimization offerings, says John Deane, president of Advisory Board Consulting and Management, a unit that focuses on physician practice management issues such as employment, practice acquisition, clinical integration and physician alignment models.

Now, Clinovations will join the Consulting and Management unit but remain operating under its own name. Clinovations CEO Trenor Williams says the company brings new expertise to Advisory Board covering the technical components of population health management, such as how to identify and analyze the right data, set up and run clinical networks, and drive integration down to the clinician and staff levels.
