MIT Medical to implement integrated system from Cerner

Ambulatory care center to leverage vendor’s Millennium EHR and Healthelntent population health management platform.

MIT Medical, an ambulatory care center serving the Massachusetts Institute Technology, will implement an integrated clinical, financial and population health management system from Cerner to support its two locations in Cambridge and Lexington, Mass.

The center plans to leverage Cerner’s Millennium electronic health record system to provide a single patient portal, connecting patients with the hospital and physician practices and enabling them take a more proactive role in their own healthcare.

As a result, patients will be able to contribute information about their health on an ongoing basis and input it directly into the EHR, according to Cecilia Stuopis, MD, medical director at MIT Medical.

“Cerner will help MIT Medical interact much more seamlessly with our patients, enhancing their experience of care,” said Stuopis. “We’re looking forward to the many ways this new system will improve our patient experience here at MIT Medical.”

Stuopis also expects that Cerner’s suite of health IT software will increase the “efficiency for our providers, frontline staff and business office” while eliminating “many of the day-to-day frustrations our employees now experience.”

“The Cerner platform will allow us to house data in one integrated database that can be accessed by both our EHR and scheduling and billing platforms,” said Shelagh Joyce, MIT Medical’s director of information services. “The system will also enable us to connect electronically to other healthcare institutions, give our clinicians equally good access across desktop and mobile platforms and offer a more function-rich patient portal.”

In addition to the Millennium EHR, MIT Medical will be implementing Cerner’s Healthelntent population health management platform, which aggregates and normalizes data from various sources in near real-time and is designed to provide clinicians with actionable insights into the data to stratify populations to identify gaps in care.

MIT Medical serves more than 20,000 students, faculty, staff, retirees, as well as members of their families, and manages more than 120,000 visits annually.
