Hospital eases patient navigation with software
In other contracts, Cerner gains EHR, pop health management business from Covenant Health.
Here is Health Data Management’s weekly roundup of health information technology contracts and implementations:
* Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Calif., will implement navigation software that enables patients to use their smartphone to find their way through the 509-bed facility, and find the best parking location based on where they are going. Mission Hospital is the pilot site, and over time the software from Connexient will be rolled out at its Laguna Beach campus. The software gives turn-by-turn indoor navigation with position accuracy of one to two meters, along with navigation cues and visual landmarks.
* Covenant Health serving eastern Tennessee has chosen electronic health records, financial management and population health management software from Cerner across its 10 hospitals and nearly 100 ambulatory sites. The vendor’s predictable total cost of ownership was a factor in the decision, according to Jim Vandersteeg, president and CEO at Covenant Health. Cerner will host the software at its data center.
* Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York will use patient engagement software from HealthLoop to offer communication with patients from the date that surgery is scheduled through the recovery. The goal is to measure and improve outcomes. Patients will receive educational materials, pre-operative instructions, and check-ins for compliance and feedback. Analytics from the vendor will aid in collecting and assessing outcomes.
* Two accountable care organizations in California—APCN ACO in San Gabriel and Allied Physicians ACO in Alhambra—will use the population health management platform of Apollo Medical Holdings to better manage their participation in the Medicare Shared Savings Program. APCN ACO has 186 practitioners and nearly 11,000 Medicare beneficiaries, and Allied Physicians has 93 providers and 5,000 Medicare beneficiaries. Platform features include quality reporting, analytics, coding optimization, physician engagement, patient engagement and satisfaction, and evidence-based care plans, among others.
* Five more Meditech clients are moving from the legacy electronic health records system to the next-generation Web EHR that meets the needs of facilities, which range from critical access hospitals to integrated delivery systems. The clients are Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio; Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana, Ky.; Palo Pinto General Hospital in Mineral Wells, Texas; Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, Minn.; and Kirby Medical Center in Monticello, Ill. Meditech says 185 clients are live on the new EHR, and more than 360 have signed for it.
