Combatting sepsis is an ever-present challenge, says Terri Couts, vice president of Epic program applications at Guthrie, an integrated delivery system serving parts of Pennsylvania and New York. Based on feedback from providers, the organization sought a sepsis detection product with meaningful alerts that provide more accuracy and specificity than what could be achieved by the electronic health record, she adds.

“Using natural language processing with POC Advisor can help us maximize the value of our EHR investment by using both patient data and extensive clinician notes to trigger alerts accurately and earlier, so our care team can effectively intervene to improve sepsis outcomes,” Couts explains.

Here are more health IT contract wins and go-lives reported during the past week.

Quorum Health, which operates 26 hospitals in rural and mid-sized markets across 14 states, has chosen electronic health record vendor MEDHOST under a five-year hosting and services agreement.

“Our initial collaboration to create a custom configuration for Quorum Health will allow us to achieve a consistently high level of patient care efficiently,” says John Mason, chief information officer. The technology will be deployed to about 25 facilities over the next 20 months, with initial hospitals to go live in the first quarter of 2020. Implementation of the corporate financial system will be completed by the end of 2019.

Ellis Medicine, serving New York’s Capital Region with four campuses, has gone live on the Cerner Millennium electronic health records system. Optimum Healthcare IT assisted with user training, activation services and go-live. “The partnership between Optimum Healthcare IT and Ellis Medicine resulted in a smooth transition from our old Soarian system to our new Cerner system that will enable us to serve our community better,” says Ron McKinnon, chief information officer at Ellis Medicine.

The North Dakota Health Information Network, which is the state’s health information exchange, has upgraded to the Orion Health Amadeus platform to improve the exchange of critical clinical and medication data. Using the platform, North Dakota providers can share, view and receive patient immunization records, medication lists, histories, discharge summaries and have access to reporting tools to monitor patients’ medication management and adherence. “By continuing to improve secure access to medical records and expanding the type of clinical communications that can be shared, we will be helping stakeholders and patients make more informed and timely healthcare decisions,” says Shila Thorson, director of the HIE.
