EHRA steps up efforts to use tech to fight opioids

The Electronic Health Records Association is targeting efforts at having technology play a more important role in combating the opioid crisis, says Leigh Burchell, vice president for government affairs at Allscripts and chair emeritus for the EHRA. To that end, the association has created a state landscape that illustrates mismatches of approaches across the country. It’s also pushing for better integration of states’ prescription drug monitoring programs with EHR systems, enabling crucial prescribing information to appear in electronic records at the best possible time within clinicians’ workflow.
