Dana Alexander
Title: Vice President, Clinical Advisory Services

Organization: Divurgent

Years in HIT: 35+

Previous Positions: Vice President, Integrated Care Delivery and Chief Nursing Officer, Caradigm; Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, GE Healthcare; Senior Consulting Executive, Cerner; CEO, Springs Center for Women Hospital; Vice President Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer, Centura Health/Penrose St. Francis Health System.

Significant Achievements: Alexander has successfully led EHR adoptions and helped influence the transformation of healthcare to achieve the goals of the National Quality Strategy set forth by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Impact on HIT: Alexander has worked for decades to shape and influence public policy and expand the use of HIT, including EHRs, telehealth and other technology innovations, and encourage the sharing of data by eliminating existing barriers. Dana is currently chair of the board of directors for HIMSS North America. In that role, she is focused on interoperability and usability to support population health, analytics and value-based care. Dana has been an invited committee or workgroup member for both the CMS and the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT. She also has been a voting member of the National Quality Forum committees, which endorse measures for CMS quality reporting programs.

Kristine Martin Anderson
Title: Executive Vice President

Organization: Booz Allen Hamilton

Number of Years Working in HIT: 20

Previous Positions: Vice President for Operations and Strategy at CareScience, a software company she helped launch.

Significant Achievements: Anderson is responsible for leading the strategic development, execution and day-to-day operations of Booz Allen’s health business, clients of which include the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. She has served as a member of the National Quality Forum, National eHealth Collaborative and HIMSS Quality Committee; co-chaired several National Quality Forum efforts; and been a member of a HITEC expert panel evaluating quality metrics.

Impact on HIT: CareScience, the company Anderson helped form, led the development and launch of one of the first health information exchanges and one of the first cloud-based systems to assess and improve healthcare quality; led the design and development of an early decision support system that assisted the delivery of care; her Booz Allen team helped create the training programs for Regional Extension Centers.
Kelly Barnes
Title: Leader of the U.S. Health Industries Practice

Organization: PricewaterhouseCoopers

Number of Years Working in HIT: 10

Previous Positions: Barnes has spent her entire career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, starting in 1988 as an auditor and in 2004 being named to the firm’s healthcare industry leadership team, and was named as the industry leader in 2009.

Significant Achievements: Under Barnes’ leadership, PwC recently announced the launch of DoubleJump Health, a “consumer health accelerator.” The program has two applications so far: DoubleJump Interchange enables cloud-based sharing of patient data collected from multiple settings, including physician offices, retail clinics, telehealth and the patient's own devices, to improve coordination of care and create a complete longitudinal record; Bodylogical, is a digital model of the human body that enables simulations to predict the likely progression of chronic diseases, allowing providers, payers, researchers and consumers to better understand how interventions impact individual patients or patient populations. Barnes was recently named by D Magazine as one of the most powerful business leaders in Dallas.

Impact on HIT: Barnes set forth a new strategy at PwC based on the changing dynamics of the industry. PwC trademarked the term "New Health Economy" and through its Health Research Institute is analyzing the shifting relationships of payers, providers and patients.
Lindy Benton
Title: CEO and President

Organization: National Electronic Attachment

Number of Years Working in HIT: 30

Previous Positions: CEO and President, MEA|NEA|TWSG; Chief Operating Officer, Healthcare Division, The Sage Group; Vice President, General Manager, U.S. Sales and Vice President, Operations–Client Experience Organization, Cerner.

Significant Achievements: Benton is leveraging the skill set and technology of her company to create a unified view of patient health information exchanged across the continuum of care. Toward the end of her time at Cerner, she was hand-picked by the CEO to help build a national consortium of healthcare leaders to identify synergies for future health IT initiatives. At The Sage Group, she advised company leadership on health affairs and strategies, and ultimately prepared the healthcare division for acquisition by a new investor.

Impact on HIT: Benton’s work has focused on creating a unified view of patient health data, capturing information at the point of exchange and ensuring relevant information is immediately available at the point of need. She has expanded the company’s reach to include the capture and management of healthcare communication stored outside the electronic health record. Benton directs the development of solutions that get the right information to the right people for faster response times, smoother transitions and better health outcomes. And she leads efforts to facilitate the secure exchange of unstructured documentation between providers and health plans.
Mandi Bishop
Title: Health Plan Analytics Innovation Practice Lead

Organization: Dell Services

Number of Years Working in HIT: 12+

Previous Positions: Principal, Adaptive Project Solutions; Project Manager, Availity; Co-Founder, Business Development and Engagement Manager, Tri-Analytics; Business Development Manager, Meridian Technologies; Project Manager, BlueCross BlueShield of Florida.

Significant Achievements: A nationally-recognized speaker, Bishop has an extensive healthcare analytics strategy and delivery background. She is an active participant in the design and development of Social Media Ambassador programs at HIMSS, TEDMED and AHIP national conferences, parlaying that experience into client social media strategy development and execution.

Impact on HIT: Bishop wrote a series of articles on the meaningful use challenges facing integrated delivery networks, and several of the entries sparked conversations with ONC leaders that resulted in material changes to the certification processes and later reviews of previously-certified software. Testing and certification processes were revamped to minimize the opportunity for non-conforming software to slip through the cracks. She also has influenced the implementation of enhanced testing processes, documentation and release management policies for leading EMR vendors.

Sylvia Mathews Burwell
Title: Secretary

Previous Positions: Director, White House Office of Management and Budget; President, the Wal-Mart Foundation; President, Global Development Program, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Significant Achievements: Burwell oversees more than 77,000 employees and presides over a wide range of complex issues involving the health of the American people and their access to health care and social services. Her department oversees the CMS, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the CDC, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the FDA, and the National Institutes of Health, among other agencies. She created a cybersecurity task force to combat attacks on health plans, providers and other organizations that maintain personal health information. She also established a Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap, which includes a health IT vendor pledge that commits organizations to the implementation of federally recognized national standards and to provide consumers with easy and secure access to their electronic health information. She also launched the CMS Virtual Research Data Center to give researchers faster, cheaper access to Medicare and Medicaid data.

Impact on HIT: Since the passage of the HITECH Act in 2009, Burwell’s HHS has been the single largest driver in the adoption and development of advanced health information technology.
Karen DeSalvo
Title: Acting Assistant Secretary for Health, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology

Organization: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Number of Years Working in HIT: 11

Previous Positions/Background: Health Commissioner for the City of New Orleans; Senior Health Policy Advisor to the New Orleans Mayor; Vice Dean for Community Health Policy at Tulane University School of Medicine; CEO, Tulane Community Health Centers.

Significant Achievements: DeSalvo help developed the Federal Health IT Agenda through the collaborative release of the “Federal Health IT Strategic Plan 2015-2020” and leads the nation's efforts for an interoperable national health system.

Impact on HIT: Since joining HHS two years ago, DeSalvo has worked to see that electronic health information is available when and where it matters most. DeSalvo led the effort to develop the “Federal Health IT Strategic Plan” which outlines the commitments of agencies that use or influence the use of health IT to expedite the availability of high-quality, accurate, secure and relevant electronic health information. In addition to her work leading the Office of the National Coordinator, she was co-head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ strategic effort to move to value-based payment from volume-based payment. And DeSalvo’s team crafted the Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap, which focuses on near-term actions to advance an interoperable health system.
Deborah DiSanzo
Title: General Manager, IBM Watson Health

Organization: IBM

Number of Years Working in HIT: 25+

Previous Positions: CEO of Philips Healthcare; held executive and management positions at Hewlett-Packard and Apollo Computer.

Significant Achievements: DiSanzo leads more than 5,000 IBM Watson employees worldwide. She was appointed a board member and member of the audit committee of Project Hope, a non-governmental organization dedicated to finding solutions to health problems in underserved areas around the globe; named a board member of Embrace Innovations, which is developing technologies to keep infants healthy, and ReWalk Robotics, which is developing wearable robotics to give mobility to people with spinal cord injuries; chaired the World Economic Forum’s steering board for Health Systems Leapfrogging in Emerging Economies, a project to produce sustainable health systems in developing countries; named one of the Netherlands’ Inspiring Fifty women in business and high technology.

Impact on HIT: A pioneer in the automated external defibrillator (AED) field, DiSanzo was instrumental in bringing to market the first AED designed for public use. She is now charged with broadening IBM Watson’s business around the world.
Judy Faulkner
Title: CEO and founder

Organization: Epic

Number of Years Working in HIT: 40+

Previous Positions: Software developer

Significant Achievements: Faulkner founded Epic in 1979 and the company is now one of the leading providers of electronic health records systems. Use of the software has reduced hospital acquired infections and adverse drug events, helped patients prevent and manage chronic diseases, and increased efficiency and cost savings. Epic was the first to develop an integrated system uniting acute and ambulatory, patient and payer on one database; the first self-service patient portal integrated with an EHR (MyChart); and the first direct EHR-to-EHR interoperability network.

Impact on HIT: Faulkner created one of the first databases organized around a patient record and designed for clinical information. Epic has since grown from its modest beginnings as a clinical database company to an EHR supplier to 385 highly respected healthcare organizations that cover 33,500 clinics, 1,600 hospitals, 1,700 retail clinics, and more than 330,000 physicians. Faulkner currently serves on the University of Wisconsin Computer Science Board of Visitors and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine’s Leadership Roundtable.
Helen Figge
Title: Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Development

Organization: LumiraDx USA

Years in HIT: 12 years in HIT; extensive experiences in the healthcare field.

Previous Positions: Vice President, Global Clinical Integrations Accountable Care Solutions, Alere; Director, Clinical Integrations, Alere; Senior Director, Career Services, Professional Development, HIMSS; Director, Client Office, Allscripts; IT Consultant, HIXNY; Vice President, Strategic Solutions, AmerisourceBergen; Manager, Clinical Operations, St. Peter’s Health Partners.

Significant Achievements: Figge helped to create unique patient-engagement opportunities and healthcare best practices that support LumiraDx’s health IT solution sets. She influences end users on critical healthcare issues by understanding, educating and authoring white papers, columns, blogs and social media content and works to accelerate the adoption of healthcare management solutions by serving on boards and committees for organizations including HIMSS and CHIME.

Impact on HIT: Figge strives to encourage critical thinking of current health IT industry trends. She has helped educate thousands of healthcare executives, leaders and clinicians about the changes needed to improve the healthcare industry. As a volunteer board and committee member for HIMSS, CHIME and other organizations, Figge actively works to improve healthcare IT standards and increase user adoption and awareness on how best to use healthcare technology solutions.

Deborah Gage
Title: President and CEO

Significant Achievements: Gage pursued a strategy built on her belief that the convergence of big data and workflow applications could effectively equip industry stakeholders with the tools needed to assess and bear risk for patient populations. Through the company’s Aerial platform, Gage and her team are positioning Medecision as an innovator in the arenas of data transparency and care coordination.

Impact on HIT: Gage has been the catalyst behind New West Physicians’ provider integration strategy and evidence-based approach to care management. By working with Gage and the Medecision team to implement the Aerial platform, New West has seen an 8% increase in referral submission, a 20% decrease in average length of stay, 5% decrease in hospital readmissions, and a 12% decrease in hospital bed days. Gage’s team also has established an internal “Innovation Challenge” to drive employees to create out-of-the-box solutions. That effort produced the company’s Aerial InCircle mobile app, which allows consumers to create their own “social circle,” facilitating collaboration across the care cycle and helping patients circumvent potential issues with their care plans.

Previous Positions: Assistant Vice President, Hospital Operations, Rush University Medical Center and Director of Rush University Medical Center Children’s Hospital; Administrator, Houston Medical Center; COO, Children's Hospital of Michigan; Director of Operations, Shands AGH; multiple operational positions at the Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center; Director of Health Information Management, Piedmont Hospital.

Significant Achievements: Gordon leads an association representing more than 103,000 health information management and health informatics professionals dedicated to the effective management of information in healthcare. As CEO of AHIMA, she oversaw the association’s development of principles for Information Governance (IG) and the IG Adoption Model as well as the PulseRate tool to measure IG and the HealthRate service to assist with IG adoption. Other achievements include development of a health IT curriculum for the Global Health Workforce Council; development of the first HIM Career Map to identify job roles and settings for health information and informatics professionals; advocating for ICD-10 implementation; and helping coders and other healthcare professionals prepare for the updated classification system.

Impact on HIT: Gordon has overseen AHIMA’s efforts to drive the adoption of IG throughout the healthcare community to ensure that information is trustworthy, appropriately accessible, accurate and actionable. Gordon led AHIMA’s advocacy and leadership campaign to support the adoption of ICD-10.
Nancy Ham
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Organization: Medicity

Years in HIT: About 25 years

Previous Positions: President and CEO, MedVentive; President, Sentillion; President and COO, ProxyMed; General Manager, Institutional and Connectivity Services, Healtheon/WebMD; Senior Vice President, Business Development, ActaMed.

Significant Achievements: Ham has led the transition of Medicity from an interoperability health information exchange (HIE) vendor to a full population health solutions provider; nearly doubling the number of transactions processed each year through Medicity HIEs from 2 billion in 2014 to 3.6 billion in 2015. She has helped clients realize significant expense and revenue improvements, while dramatically decreasing the time it takes for providers to aggregate and share patient records across care sites.

Impact on HIT: Under Ham’s leadership, Medicity is enabling large organizations and independent practices alike to put their data to work in new and meaningful ways. By building clinically connected communities, caregivers can have a holistic view into their patients’ healthcare needs and experience, something that’s critical to delivering the right care to the right patient at the right time. Under Ham’s leadership, Medicity won the Best in KLAS award for most improved vendor in the 2015/2016 Best in KLAS: Software & Services category.
Carla Kriwet
Title: CEO of Patient Care and Monitoring Solutions

Organization: Philips

Number of Years Working in HIT: 15

Significant Achievements: Kriwet has led teams that developed major technologies including IntelliSpace Console Critical Care, a cloud-based clinical decision support dashboard supporting enhanced workflows in the ICU; medical-grade, wearable biosensor that automatically and continuously measures heart rate, respiratory rate, skin temperature, single-lead ECG, posture and activity data for at-risk patients in low acuity settings in the hospital; and IntelliVue Guardian Solution: Guardian Early Warning Scoring, which aids in monitoring general-floor patients at risk.

Impact on HIT: Kriwet helped to show that successful, connected sensor technologies require both clinical insights and patient engagement. She believes that wearables and sensors must be combined with software solutions and services, deep clinical knowledge and smart algorithms to deliver a meaningful application and actionable insights.
K. Victoria Laurie
Title: CIO

Organization: MedSynergies

Number of Years Working in HIT: 30

Previous Positions: Executive Vice President, Anthelio Healthcare Solutions; Vice President, EDS.

Significant Achievements: Laurie and her teams are responsible for managing the systems that enable more than $1 billion in annual collections on behalf of clients. These teams cover all medical practice management system support and hosting. While Laurie has been at MedSynergies, the company’s scale, scope and the associated technology infrastructure have tripled in size. The company also has greater stability and security, as well as advanced analytics.

Impact on HIT: Laurie created one of the first integrated healthcare practice management data warehouses, normalizing and combining two separate healthcare practice management structures into one system.
Michelle Miller
Title: Senior Director, Data Strategy

Organization: Cerner

Number of Years Working in HIT: 18

Previous Positions: Miller has spent her entire career at Cerner, working as a Senior Director of Engineering Operations as well as a Software Architect and a Software Engineer.

Significant Achievements: Miller is responsible for core data strategy around Cerner’s HealtheIntent population health platform, a cloud-based, programmable, big data system that aggregates, normalizes and standardizes data from disparate source systems in order to create a record that enables decision support, quality measurement and analytics for population management. She is also one of Cerner’s designated HL-7 voting members and responsible for the HL7 FHIR strategy within the Millennium electronic health record platform. She also serves as HL7 Patient Care co-chair and a member of the HL7 Argonaut FHIR Team, formed to developed and promote FHIR and other international interoperability standards.

Impact on HIT: Miller has logged more change requests to the FHIR specification than anyone else in the HL-7 community (with the exception of the core FHIR team), 96 percent of which have resulted in changes to the spec. She has cleaned up all build warnings and prioritized quality assurance issues with the pharmacy owned FHIR resources. She has been instrumental in steering Cerner away from proprietary implementation standards and toward maximum interoperability in its population health data models.

Lisa Pettigrew
Title: General Manager for America's Healthcare and Life Sciences

Organization: CSC

Number of Years Working in HIT: 15

Previous Positions: General Manager, CSC, Global Health; National Director – Health Services, CSC Australia; Partner and Director at Accenture.

Significant Achievements: Pettigrew established CSC’s health care business in Australia; played a key role in CSC’s acquisition of Australian-based iSOFT in 2011; helped launch CSC’s Chronic Care Management service, a cloud-based system designed to help providers improve the quality of life for seniors with chronic conditions; and supported the creation of CSC’s Patient Care Co-ordination Centre, which offers patient communications, clinical workflow and care analysis services. PCCC is helping the U.K.’s National Health Service improve the quality of its care and reduce patient readmissions.

Impact on HIT: Pettigrew has driven a wide range of innovation into healthcare systems around the world; fostered commercial health models to improve patient care and patient experiences and helped providers mitigate risks and better secure their systems.
Fatima Paruk
Title: Chief Medical Officer, Allscripts Analytics

Organization: Allscripts

Number of Years Working in HIT: 11

Previous Positions: Post-Doctoral Fellow, Trauma Care, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; Consultant, Clinovations.
Significant Achievements: Paruk has led a team developing, designing and deploying predictive analytics models to improve health. She has been committed to disaster response, specifically in Kenya where she established the country’s injury surveillance system and has worked to improve hospital quality. In addition, she authored Kenya’s National EMS policy.

Impact on HIT: Paruk has demonstrated that large-scale data can influence national policy. The EMS and trauma system development in Kenya is based upon data from a low-cost injury surveillance system. She has led initiatives to improve data quality for better insights into healthcare, and is changing the way health professionals look at health problems by using big data.
Becky Quammen
Title: CEO, Founder

Organization: Quammen Health Care Consultants

Number of Years Working in HIT: 25+

Previous Positions: Quammen previously worked for software vendor HBOC, which was bought by McKesson; Dorenfest Group, an HIT consultancy; and the Adventist Health Group in IT management.

Significant Achievements: Quammen founded her own consulting company, which employs more than 50 professionals and has worked with many of the leading hospitals in the country. She recently created MyConsultQ, an Internet-based resourcing service for healthcare organizations looking for on-demand executives, clinicians and technologists. Her firm also has provided expert IS outsourcing services to community, specialty, rural and academic healthcare delivery systems across the country, allowing them to successfully deploy information systems for clinical and business operations.

Impact on HIT: Quammen has helped more than 40 hospitals deploy electronic health systems; has pioneered an implementation methodology that has been productized, making software deployment processes more easily repeatable; and is bringing the recruiting and hiring practices of the Gig economy to healthcare with MyConsultQ.
Holly Rimmasch
Title: Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer

Organization: Health Catalyst

Number of Years Working in HIT: 20

Previous Positions: Assistant Vice President Responsible for Clinical Services, Intermountain Healthcare; Clinical Operations Director and Vice-Chair of Cardiovascular and Intensive Medicine Clinical Programs, Intermountain; Co-Founder and Principal of HMS, a healthcare consulting firm.

Significant Achievements: Rimmasch is part of the team that sets the overall strategy for Health Catalyst as well as its philosophical approach to solving key health IT issues, such as finding and fixing the sources of clinical and financial waste. She has supported many improvements in a variety of hospitals and health systems by focusing on integrating best practices, analytics and adoption. She has participated in the development of population health tools and processes and promoted the integration of clinical operations.

Impact on HIT: Rimmasch expertise in software design and usability is reflected in Health Catalyst’s approach to ensuring its system can be pragmatically implemented across a variety of hospitals and health systems. Rimmasch has been responsible for promoting the integration of clinical operations—including pharmacy, laboratory, respiratory, case management, rehabilitation services and more —across hospitals, ambulatory settings and managed care plans.
Tamara StClaire
Title: Chief Innovation Officer, Commercial Healthcare

Organization: Xerox

Years in HIT: 25 years’ experience in healthcare; 6 years in HIT

Previous Positions: Chief Business Officer, Xerox PARC; GM/VP Commercial Operations, Oxonica; Director, Abbott; Director, Roche Diagnostics.

Significant Achievements: StClaire supported Xerox’s acquisition of RSA Medical, Inventiv Patient Access Solutions and Healthy Communities Institute; served as a reviewer for the National Institutes of Health’s R21 research grant program; was one of the architects of Xerox’s lifecycle population health management system, Health Outcome Solutions; and received Xerox Commercial Healthcare’s Innovation Leader of the Year award in 2014.

Impact on HIT: StClaire helped Xerox become a leader in healthcare services by spotting and boosting startups and small companies developing innovative healthcare products, driving innovation around patient care and population health and helped push telemedicine into the mainstream with the creation of a telehealth infrastructure platform.
Sheri Stoltenberg

Organization: Stoltenberg Consulting

Previous Positions: Director, Ancillary Systems, Shadyside Hospital; Project Manager, Shared Medical Systems.

Significant Achievements: Stoltenberg founded in 1995 the consulting company that bears her name. The firm employs 120-130 professionals and has served major providers such as the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and the University of Pittsburg Medical Center. She started both the ConsultantOne program to help young graduates move into health IT and an outsourcing/helpdesk services line. And she was the first women on the IT management team at Shadyside.

Impact on HIT: Stoltenberg is committed to fostering the knowledge and experience of HIT workers and making them more able to improve patient care and eliminate healthcare systems inefficiencies; she was one of the first to contribute heavily to the CHIME education foundation – her firm has pledged $50,000 to the program.
Kristen Vennum
Title: Partner/Principal, Advisory Health Sector Leader and Global Client Service Partner

Organization: Ernst & Young

Number of Years Working in HIT: 11

Previous Positions: Vice President, The North Highland Co.; Principal, The North Highland Co.

Significant Accomplishments: Vennum serves as Ernst & Young’s Americas Advisory Health Sector Leader and Global Client Service Partner responsible for growing the firm’s healthcare practice and increasing its market share.

Impact on HIT: To help prevent healthcare data breaches, Vennum helped create a new approach to reviewing clients’ cybersecurity portfolios, analyzing spending, matching efforts to specific organizational vulnerabilities, and communicating cybersecurity strategies to the client’s board.

Significant Achievements: Yeager oversees a non-profit chartered to advance the implementation of secure, interoperable nationwide health information exchange. She launched and ran the first EHR certification program, the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology, which laid the groundwork for EHR certification requirements under the HITECH Act. She facilitated the merging of two national insurance claims clearinghouses while working for Envoy in its merger with NEIC.

Impact on HIT: Yeager has made major contributions to HIT interoperability and connectivity in several contexts. Her early work in merging two large electronic claims clearinghouses gave her a thorough grounding in the challenges of electronic data interchange. Under Yeager’s leadership, the Sequoia Project’s eHealth Exchange, a national health information exchange, has become the largest network of its kind in the U.S., connecting more than 30 percent of all U.S. hospitals. Yeager also led the successful launch of Carequality, which is now interconnecting data sharing networks using a national-level, consensus-driven approach, much like the telecommunications industry did for linking cell phone networks.

Significant Achievements: Williams leads more than 1,300 employees in developing innovative health IT products and consulting services for hospitals and health systems, commercial payers, and federal and state health agencies. Under Williams’ leadership, the $700 million business has achieved greater than 10% compounded annual growth for the past three years. Williams has positioned 3M Health Information Systems as a national leader in transitioning the healthcare industry to the new ICD-10 coding standard. 3M’s coding technology and classification research was selected by the CMS for the design of the ICD-10 Procedure Coding System and for ongoing development and maintenance of the ICD-10 code set, MS-DRGs and the GEMS translation tool.

Impact on HIT: Williams directed the creative process for new 3M technology that helps physicians accurately document patient diagnoses and treatment in medical records, while automatically coding the documentation for hospital billing. This integrated clinical documentation improvement and automated coding system was the first of its kind and created an entirely new software category within the health IT market.
