WakeMed teams with Premier to improve performance

Premier contacts will help the organization collaborate with other providers, Donald Gintzig says.

WakeMed Health & Hospitals, a 919-bed three-hospital delivery system in Raleigh, N.C., is working with Premier on a variety of initiatives to significantly boost enterprisewide performance.

The improvements focus on supply chain services, pharmacy, data analytics, data benchmarking, clinical quality management and a clinical surveillance system from TheraDoc, says Donald Gintzig, president and CEO at WakeMed.

“We also look forward to opportunities to collaborate, share knowledge and network with other academic health systems, to leverage these resources to accelerate care transformation,” Gintzig adds.

WakeMed will use Premier’s performance improvement and supply chain services to reduce the cost of care, examine care delivery utilization and variation patterns, compare outcomes against peer organizations, better understand and optimize value-based purchasing, and identify and prioritize future opportunities for improvement.

WakeMed is a member of America’s Essential Hospitals, a group of 300 teaching facilities that cater to the most vulnerable populations. Financial terms of the alliance between Premier and WakeMed were not disclosed.
