A program of the Medical Society of Virginia seeks to help physician members navigate the process of selecting and implementing electronic health records and other information systems.

The society in 2010 developed the Health Information Technology Select Program to aid physicians in meeting EHR meaningful use requirements and provisions of the health reform law. The program includes guidance on preparation and planning, product selection, installation and achieving meaningful use.

Since October 2010, the society has selected 10 software vendors that have each agreed to market products under the following terms: discounted pricing, compliance with state HIE and registry requirements at no extra cost, a guarantee to maintain federal EHR certification and conform with state and federal meaningful use requirements, implement government-mandated system changes at no charge, implement data and source code protections to secure information, issue additional licenses at the same preferred terms if a practice expands, and unlimited upgrades and new releases at no additional cost.

Vendors participating in the HIT Select program include Allscripts, ClearPractice, e-MDs, Greenway Medical, Ingenix, McKesson, MED3000, MedcomSoft, NextGen and Sage. More information is available at msv.org/HITSelect.
