Vendor News: Cerner Wins Defense Pathology IT Contact

The Military Health System will implement the CoPathPlus anatomic pathology information system of Cerner across its worldwide facilities. The contract is worth $16.3 million with an estimated implementation completion date of May 31, 2020.


The Military Health System will implement the CoPathPlus anatomic pathology information system of Cerner across its worldwide facilities.

The product has been a Best in KLAS software and services category leader for four consecutive years. The contract is worth $16.3 million with an estimated implementation completion date of May 31, 2020.

This procurement is separate from the pending Defense Department decision to replace its electronic health records system. Cerner is angling for the EHR contract in a team that includes Leidos and Accenture. The other EHR suitors are Epic teamed with IBM and Impact Advisors, and Allscripts teamed with Hewlett-Packard and Computer Sciences Corp.

*As the ICD-10 compliance deadline nears, clinical transcription services vendor M*Modal and consultancy Anthelio Healthcare Solutions have teamed to help each other get over the finish line. M*Modal is getting additional coders and auditors from Anthelio, which will get transcriptionists and editors from M*Modal to support clinical documentation services. Anthelio also will market M*Modal’s front-end speech recognition technology to its client base.

*A new service from claims clearinghouse and revenue cycle vendor ABILITY Network helps home health agencies improve the accuracy of collecting data for the Outcome Assessment Information Set, called OASIS. Medicare uses the information to assess care quality and outcomes. The service, called ABILITY|OPTIMIZE OASIS, detects errors with coding and plan of care inclusions to aid in correctly reflecting services rendered and patient status.

*Payment processing vendor Elavon, a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, has a new processing platform that will get electronic insurance payments into providers’ bank accounts three to seven days faster than paper checks. Evalon is using the Emdeon claims clearinghouse to support the service, called Transend Pay.
