Mercer has announced an initial group of insurance carriers that will offer benefits through Mercer Marketplace, the company’s private benefits exchange for employers’ active employees and their families.

“The high-caliber carrier participation in Mercer’s private benefits exchange matches the increasing interest displayed by our clients and prospects,” says Julio Portalatin, president and CEO of Mercer. “We believe that these early-adopter providers—along with the additional firms we expect to announce very shortly—will provide enhanced value for our clients and their employees.”

The first group of national, regional and state carriers to partner with Mercer includes: Aetna, Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Health Net, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Anthem Blue Cross of California, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Florida Blue.

“With 56 percent of employers considering a private exchange to provide benefits to their active employees or retirees, the transformation of the U.S. health care landscape is well-underway,” says David Rahill, president, Health & Benefits, Mercer.

Employees who use Mercer Marketplace, which uses cloud-based technology developed by Benefitfocus, through their employers, will use decision tools to sift through the array of personalized portfolio of benefits offered. According to Mercer, these options include core medical and voluntary benefits that constitute more than 20 lines of coverage.

Mercer Marketplace will only be available to employers with more than 100 employees. Mercer is a global consultant in talent, health, retirement and investments.
