Telehealth Services Vendor Teladoc Expands Via Acquisition

Teladoc, a Dallas-based vendor of telehealth services enabling consumers to consult with a physician online or via telephone, has expanded its market share by acquiring Consult A Doctor of Miami Beach, Fla.

Both companies sell telehealth services to insurers and employers who offer it to their covered lives or employees. Teladoc has about six million members and more than 500 physicians in its network, and Consult A Doctor has approximately two million members.

Teladoc has focused on larger insurers and employers and the acquisition gives it a new market as Consult A Doctor targets smaller payers and companies. The acquired company also brings technology to facilitate information exchange among physicians and members. Teladoc physicians complete more than 120,000 annual consults, according to the company.
