Six major health information technology vendors have formed an alliance to cooperate on systems interoperability issues.

Six major health information technology vendors have formed an alliance to cooperate on systems interoperability issues.

Allscripts, athenahealth, Cerner, Greenway Medical Technologies, McKesson and its RelayHealth unit will define, promote and certify a national infrastructure with common platforms and policies, the companies announced at HIMSS13.

The new CommonWellHealth Alliance will certify HIT products that will work on the national infrastructure.

Initial components of the national infrastructure, with pilot testing during the next year, will include cross-entity patient linking and matching services, patient consent and data access management technology, and patient record locator and directed query services.

Members of the alliance, a not-for-profit trade association, have committed to collaborating with all health information technology developers and encourage other vendors to join. More information is available at commonwellalliance.org.
