Premier Inc. will host a free Web seminar on Aug. 25 to explain new Medicare reporting requirements for infections. The seminar is open to all hospitals regardless of whether they are members of Premier, which is a Charlotte, N.C.-based provider alliance and group purchasing organization.

The reporting requirements start in January 2011, when hospitals initially must use the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network to electronically report incidences of central line-associated bloodstream infections.

The seminar will explain the new infection control policy and forthcoming deadlines, provide an overview of reporting to NHSN, and implementation steps to use the network. Presenters are Daniel Pollock, M.D., surveillance branch chief in CDC's division of healthcare quality promotion; and Danielle Lloyd, senior director of reimbursement policy at Premier.
