The Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration has awarded 45 grants totaling $83.9 million to assist safety net organizations in adopting electronic health records systems.
Eligible providers practicing in the organizations will be able to demonstrate meaningful use of EHRs and qualify for Medicare or Medicaid incentive payments. The grant funds are part of $2 billion allotted to HRSA under the economic stimulus law to expand health care services to low-income and uninsured individuals.
The grants, awarded through a competitive process, range from $327,169 to $3 million with most being at least $1 million. More information and the list of grantees are available at hhs.gov/news/press/2010pres/06/20100603a.html.
