The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded laboratory and epidemiology improvement grants totaling $48.8 million across the nation and some territories.

Funded under the Affordable Care Act, the grants will support improved disease reporting and monitoring, new information technology systems, and new lab equipment and supplies for diagnosing emerging pathogens. Grants went to all 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Republic of Palau, and New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and Houston.
