Hospital information systems vendor Prognosis Health Information Systems will acquire Creative Healthcare Systems, which sells the MedGenix suite of hospital financial management and patient accounting applications.

Terms of the acquisition, expected to close in late September, were not disclosed. Both vendors target rural and community hospitals and delivery systems. Houston-based Prognosis is best known for its ChartAccess electronic health records system but also sells a financial/administrative system, called Evolution Financials, under a business relationship with Infomedika. Prognosis will continue to support clients on that system and other business applications, says CEO Ramsey Evans.

Springfield, Mo.-based Creative Healthcare Systems sells the 24-module MedGenix system that includes core financial, administrative and reporting applications, as well as materials management, medical records, order management, patient care documentation, pharmacy, radiology, swing bed management and time & attendance modules.

Prognosis and Creative Healthcare in early 2011 worked together to integrate their systems for a joint client, Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas. "We were aware of CHS in the marketplace prior to developing a relationship with Ness," Evans says. "The Ness implementation, however, allowed us to 'interview via integration.'  We actually got to see how our systems could work together day in and day out--and we liked the synergy that we observed. On top of that, our teams worked very well together. So, we explored the functionality and capabilities of CHS further, and felt that by working together, we could support our clients' comprehensive needs."

Prognosis will quickly add a graphical user interface to the MedGenix applications. More information is available at and
