Primus Capital Funds has acquired a controlling interest in Emmi Solutions LLC, a vendor of patient education and engagement software. Terms of the acquisition, under which all management and employees remain, were not disclosed.

The acquisition of Emmi expands Primus’ extensive holdings in the health care industry that already include information technology vendors as AOD Software (long-term care), excelleRx (hospice medication management), Healthcare Management Systems (community hospital information systems), MedHost (ED systems and part of HMS), InSite One (medical imaging storage), Passport Health Communications (transactions processing) and Vendormate (credentialing/compliance/vendor management software).

Chicago-based Emmi offers interactive presentations on hundreds of medical conditions and related procedures. The presentations educate patients while providing informed consent documentation. Physicians using Emmi's content give their patients access codes to view presentations.

Emmi in late 2012 introduced two new programs. The EmmiTransition program is designed to educate patients and track their health status as they transition to different care settings following hospital discharge. The program uses automated, interactive phone calls to keep track of patients’ health status following discharge. Patients are given health tips or urged to conduct daily activities such as checking their weight, and they also are asked specific questions to assess if any health problems are developing.

The vendor also launched a patient reminder service to improve engagement and support population health management. The EmmiPrevent service uses automated interactive voice response telephone calls to remind patients of gaps in care and to schedule an appointment. Summa Health Network in Ohio was a pilot site and focused on increasing eye screenings of patients with diabetes. Twenty-three percent of such patients contacted made the appointment and got treated.
