Prime Healthcare standardizes data management

In other implementations, UMass Memorial goes live on Agfa enterprise imaging platform.

Here is Health Data Management’s weekly roundup of new health IT contracts and go-lives.
  • Prime Healthcare, with 45 hospitals in 14 states, has deployed the backup, recovery, archive and cloud services of Commvault across its enterprise. The package protects more than 400 terabytes of data while providing elevated support for Epic electronic health record backup and recovery functions. Early on, the organization has achieved 98 percent backup success rates and can restore a full production image from the EHR in minutes. Prime Healthcare also can failover its entire data center to an alternate center within 15 minutes while restoring all operations within 30 minutes. The new technology further supports the goal of migrating 10 hospitals to Epic annually to support aggressive acquisition plans.
  • UMass Memorial Medical Center now is live across multiple campuses on a new version of the enterprise imaging platform of Agfa Healthcare. The platform integrates with the organization’s Epic electronic health record. In another phase of the project five separate PACS were consolidated into a single solution to support clinical and IT operational efficiencies. UMass CIO Tim Tarnowski says the go-live of the Agfa software and Epic EHR was the smoothest he has experienced.

  • The Royal Adelaide Hospital, which opened in August and is part of South Australia Health, will implement the iPro Anesthesia information system of Allscripts. The product is a cloud-based and mobile-supporting system designed by anesthesiologists. The new 800-bed hospital replaces a hospital built in 1841.
  • Aris Radiology in Hudson, Ohio and serving 300 hospitals and delivery systems has selected the cloud-hosted medical imaging platform of Intelerad. The platform enables users to offload IT management to reduce the need for large capital investments in IT infrastructure and personnel. Instead, Intelerad will design, procure and maintain hardware, storage and security.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded a contract to Medtronic Care Management Services to launch new telemedicine products to support home telehealth devices and services. The products include a large portfolio of patient engagement tools and an extensive library of disease management protocols. Patients will interact with the service daily via a health check that offers condition-specific education and clinical questions that change based on patient responses. Medtronic has partnered with the VA since 2011 and has served 310,000 veterans to date.
