Premier Inc., a provider alliance and group purchasing organization, is calling on federal officials to reexamine proposed quality measures reporting to support Medicare outpatient services.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on July 2 published a proposed rule to govern the outpatient prospective payment system during calendar year 2011.
Premier, in a comment letter, suggests development of a framework for assessing proposed measures. Criteria for new reporting measures, according to the organization, should include endorsement by the National Quality Forum, field-testing and publicly reporting for at least a year, and alignment with electronic health records meaningful use criteria where appropriate to reduce duplicate reporting.
