Optum, the information technology and business services unit of UnitedHealth Group, will acquire physician practice consultancy MedSynergies Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

The deal will expand Optum’s services to physicians, particularly in the area of revenue cycle management, and bring new market share. MedSynergies focuses on physician groups aligned with large health systems, serving more than 9,300 providers.

MedSynergies offers analytics-supported services to optimize physician practice performance by assessing the operational, financial and relational health of a practice. It then works with a practice to create and implement a strategic improvement plan.

Services include market surveys to identify new opportunities, optimizing electronic health records and other technology systems, engaging physicians to improve collaboration, scheduling and population health management; and engaging patients.

Optum brings to MedSynergies additional analytics capabilities and existing relationships and expertise to provide deeper and more customized services, according to the vendors.
