NLP, blockchain link to enable personalized patient communication
Platform from doc.ai uses artificial intelligence and will have modules for 3 uses, says Rajeev Ronanki.
An emerging company is planning to use a natural language processing approach in combination with blockchain technology to better share information and insights derived from medical data.
The approach will be tested by doc.ai, which announced the initiative and will work with Deloitte Life Sciences and Healthcare to test its Robo-Hematology solution, which it debuted last month. It will be doc.ai’s first test of its approach with a customer.
The company says it offers an advanced natural language processing technology platform, which uses blockchain technology to timestamp datasets and decentralize artificial intelligence. The technology solution was created by developers at Stanford and Cambridge universities.
Use of doc.ai technology can assist providers, payers and other healthcare companies to better interact with patients—the company says the approach is intended to improve patients’ care and experience “by creating the most advanced natural language dialogue system” capable of generating insights from combinations of medical data.
The company says its platform will enable patients to have personalized artificial intelligence-powered “conversations” about their health at any time. For starters, it’s planning to roll out three modules that use natural language processing to answer questions about genomics, hematology and anatomy.

Executives at doc.ai say its technology is designed to use a decentralized edge-learning network to develop insights based on personal data. An edge-learning network performs deep learning computations at the edge of the network or on a mobile device. The patient can ask the technology questions related to his or her personal health conditions, and through artificial intelligence, answers are provided that are specific to the patient’s question and specific needs.
