EmblemHealth, parent company of insurers Group Health Incorporated and HIP Health Plan of New York, will offer individual health coverage through New York’s health insurance exchange with a premium price of $386 per month.

The individual plan is one of several benefit plans, including family coverage, that the insurer will offer through the exchange. Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced approval of rates for 17 insurers that will provide individual and family coverage on the state exchange either through direct pay or small businesses. The plans will be ranked in four levels for the comprehensiveness of coverage they offer: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. EmblemHealth’s individual plan is ranked Silver.

Each ranking tier will have standard contract terms and product offerings to ease comparison shopping and foster price competition among insurers. On average, the approved individual coverage premium rates of Gold and Platinum level plans is 53 percent lower than 2012 direct-pay individual rates, not counting premium subsidies for which individuals may be eligible.

The state remains on target enroll consumers and small businesses in the exchange starting October 1, according to State Health Commissioner Nirav Shah, M.D. More information is at healthbenefitexchange.ny.gov.
