Medical dictation/transcription/speech recognition vendor M*Modal and provider communications software firm Vocera Communications have selected new top officers.

M*Modal has named Duncan James as CEO and a board member, succeeding Vern Davenport who has “chosen to leave the company” he has led for almost two years, according to a company announcement. The company also named Graham King, former head of Shared Medical Systems (Siemens) and HBOC (McKesson) as its new chairman.

James comes to M*Modal from QuadraMed Corp., where he served as president and CEO for four years. He has 25 years of experience in information technology and served as group president of McKesson’s hospital and health system unit for nearly a decade, and was head of marketing for about five years prior to the promotion. Investment firm One Equity Partners acquired M*Modal in mid-2012 for $1.1 billion.

Vocera has named Brent Lang as president, CEO and a board member, succeeding CEO Robert Zollars who now becomes executive chairman. The change was expected as the transition was announced in February. Lang started at Vocera in June 2001 as vice president of marketing and business development, and has served as president and COO since October 2007.
