New Leader Named at AMIA

The American Medical Informatics Association has named Kevin Fickenscher, M.D., as president and CEO, succeeding the retiring Ted Shortliffe, M.D.


The American Medical Informatics Association has named Kevin Fickenscher, M.D., as president and CEO, succeeding the retiring Ted Shortliffe, M.D.

Fickenscher joined the organization on March 19 and will officially assume the posts on April 1. He most recently served as executive director of strategy and development for Dell Inc.’s health care and life sciences services unit, and as vice president and CMO at Perot Systems before Dell bought it in 2009.

Previous positions included CMO at Catholic Healthcare West in California and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin, an assistant dean at Michigan State University, and founding director of the Center for rural Health at the University of North Dakota. He trained as a family physician.
