New Leader for WebMD

Online medical information content vendor WebMD Health Corp. has named Cavan Redmond as CEO and a board member. He succeeds CFO Anthony Vuolo who led the company since January following the resignation of Wayne Gattinella and will continue as CFO.

WebMD has struggled financially for more than a year. In January it issued a profit warning that sharply lowered the stock price and announced it had talked with potential buyers of the company.

Redmond most recently served as group president of animal health, consumer healthcare and corporate strategy at Pfizer Inc. He previously was a senior executive at drug firm Wyeth before Pfizer acquired it. WebMD is heavily dependent on sponsorships and advertising from the pharmaceutical industry.
