Medical information content vendor Elsevier has named Tom Zajac as president of the MEDai clinical data analytics unit, based in Orlando, Fla.

Zajac succeeds Swati Abbott, who left in March 2011 to lead the Blue Health Intelligence database/analytics service of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Clayton Ramsey has served as interim president of MEDai and remains COO.

Zajac, with more than 25 years experience in health information technology, most recently was managing director of the consultancy Zajac and Associates, and is a senior scholar at Thomas Jefferson University's school of public health in Philadelphia.

He previously led CareScience and Transition Systems Inc., two decision support vendors since acquired by larger firms.
